Microstructural examinations

  • Scanning electron microscopy : microstructures, fracture surfaces, microtextures in EBSD
  • Transmission electron microscopy : microstructures, diffraction phase identification, deformation microstructures
  • Tomography, Laminography, FIB, X-ray diffraction

Complex mechanical tests over a wide temperature range

  • Under controlled environment (air, vacuum, atmosphere, humidity, etc.)
    • Monotonic traction or compression in quasi-static or dynamic, uniaxial or biaxial
    • Complex cyclic tests simulating real loading (ex : turbine engine cycle of a turbine blade)
    • Cracking tests : thermo-mechanical fatigue, creep, fracture, tenacity
  • Correlation of digital images (2D or 3D), including high temperature

Modeling and numerical integration of models

  • Development of robust models based on large test bases on all studied materials
  • Development of physically based models taking into account phenomena ranging from physico-chemistry to macroscopic damage
  • Modeling of damage in isothermal and anisothermic conditions in close connection with the SIMS and SIP poles

Specific technical resources

  • Mechanical testing machines : traction, compression, creep, relaxation, fatigue, etc.
  • Thermal fatigue benches (Joule effect and radiant heating)
  • Static or cyclic oxidation bench without load (tube ovens)
  • Enclosure for performing vacuum tests (cracking, fatigue, etc.)
  • Monitoring of damage / cracking by electrical or optical method
  • Development of in situ mechanical tests for tomography / laminography
  • Co-design of machines and specimens with the mechanical workshop of the Centre des Matériaux
  • Access to large instruments : Sun synchrotron, ESRF, ANKA, FIB
